During your maternity stay

Your room

The call bell

Your room’s call bell system allows you to contact midwifery staff 24 hours a day.

A button is located on the white handset by your bed, which your midwife will place within your reach. A second button is located on the bathroom wall. Please don’t hesitate to call staff to help you in anyway.

Television and wi-fi

Peel Health Campus provides free-to-air TV and digital movie entertainment free of charge to patients.

A patient entertainment handset has been provided which allows you to switch the television supplied on and off, change the television channel and change the television volume. There is a headphone socket to enable you to listen to the television using headphones.

Bed adjustment

Your bed is adjustable and can be repositioned using the up/down arrows located on the black handset.

In some cases, the bed’s position is set by the staff to facilitate your recovery. If you feel uncomfortable, please press the call bell and staff will assist you.

Telephone

Phone cards are available from the gift shop on site. Please ask if you need help to obtain a card.

  • Local calls: Dial 0 to access an outside line. Local calls to land lines are free for private patients.
  • International and mobile calls: Calls to international or mobile telephone numbers require a phone card.

You may receive calls directly. Please ask the staff for your direct number.

Air conditioning

Your room is fitted with air conditioning and is set at 22 °C. If you find that the air conditioning does not meet your requirements, please contact your midwife for assistance.

Medications

You are requested to bring all current medications with you. These will be placed in your bedside cabinet and made available for use during your stay with us. For your safety, please inform staff about any medication you are currently taking. This includes any herbal medications.

Film equipment in maternity areas

We recognise that patients, families and friends wish to capture the special moments, however, we also must ensure patient safety, the privacy of other patients and our staff members are not compromised.

The following conditions apply:

  • Photographing, filming or audio recording may be in the privacy of a patient’s own room, provided the privacy of other patient and staff members is not compromised.
  • Photographing, filming or audio recording of staff members, other patients or visitors is not allowed (this includes capturing of voice or image of anyone nearby) in the operating and birthing suites or special care nursery. This includes live streaming or broadcasting (e.g. Facetime, Facebook live, and Instagram).
  • All photographing, filming and audio recording will be respectful of the intimate nature of birth and with attention paid to the dignity of our birthing mothers.
  • Professional photographers are not permitted to enter the hospital site, birthing suite, operating theatre or special care nursery without prior approval by the hospital, including full consent of your care team members. We suggest that you contact the hospital in advance to discuss.
  • Professional photographers will leave the room immediately if requested by hospital staff.
